August 7, 2009 (PRADULT) - San Francisco, CA - Athletic Model Guild announced early July23, 2009 the release of its second iPhone app, “AMG Beefcake!” “AMG Beefcake!” aptly displays the best of beefcake photography pioneer, and AMG founder, Bob Mizer’s work in a high quality virtual gallery. Users can download, set as wallpaper, or share over 150 historical images from a time when male nudity was not only frowned upon, but also illegal. In light of Apple’s no-nudity policy these images have taken on a renewed sense of subversion, AMG Director of Communications, Christopher Trout said.

“It’s been over two months since we sent “AMG Beefcake!” to Apple for approval,” Trout said. “It’s taken them this long to figure out what the rest of the world has known for more than half a century – beefcake’s as American as apple pie, and just as innocent.”

Like the studio’s first application, “AMG Brasil Boys,” which was released last month, “AMG Beefcake!” is available for only 99¢ in the iTunes app store. The images, selected from a collection that includes nearly 1 million individual photographs, show bodybuilders, military men, and blue-collar workers from the turn of the 20th century, clad in posing straps, briefs, and bathing suits. Dennis Bell, the studio’s president, said the app is a reflection of the iconic style that made AMG an inspiration to gay artists and audiences the world over.

“Bob’s black and white work has become synonymous with a certain period in gay photography,” Bell said. “We wanted to celebrate his photography, but at the same time move it forward by delivering some of his best work on a 21st century platform. ‘AMG Beefcake!’ is full of Bob’s most popular models, including John Tristram, Juwa Lavonce, Dennis Lavia, Richard DuBois, and Forrester Millard. It’s a really beautiful marriage of two very different times.”

“AMG Beefcake!” is the first vintage gay male photography app to be approved by Apple. Late last month an app, entitled “Hottest Girls” appeared in the iTunes store, displaying multiple shots of topless women. The tech giant soon pulled the app, stating to CNN that its position on nudity stood firm. Trout said that while they won’t try and sneak anything past censors, AMG is prepared for the day when Apple will follow the lead of the federal government.

“We’ve got a couple of fully-nude apps in the works,” Trout said. “It’s just a matter of time before Apple loosens its reigns, and when they do, you’ll be seeing a whole lot more of our models on your iPhone.”

“AMG Beefcake!” is part of a greater campaign, which started with the relaunch of the studio’s dual membership sites (AthleticModelGuild.com and AMGBrasil.com) earlier this year, to bring the historic studio into the 21st Century.
